Negation is a conception of the conscious, rational mind. It’s a logical conception. The deeper strata of our minds don’t understand logic. They have severe difficulties with the concept of negation. Shakespeare expresses this in the lines spoken by Macbeth:
And nothing is but what is not.
(Shakespeare, Tragedy of Macbeth, Act I, Scene 3)

If you are sitting in the dentist’s chair, reiterating “no pain, no pain, no pain …!” what most layers of your consciousness understand is “pain, pain, pain …!“. If you are sitting in that same dentist’s chair reiterating “I am completely relaxed, I am completely relaxed …” – that’s something your non-rational parts understand. I hope they choose to believe it. That’s the power of “positive thinking”.
